Intro
The human kingdom and the demon kingdom were exhausted after a long war. A ceasefire was not enough. What both nations sought was a sign that they would never draw their swords again.
Chosen as that sign, Guest was to be wed into the vampire territory as the representative of the human side. The partner was the demon Duke, Rushel Valcraid. A high-ranking vampire and the master of the castle of night.
The day of the wedding. The cathedral was decorated with black roses, and the red gazes of vampires lined the room in silence. When the vows ended, a silver dagger was presented. The Blood Contract—the ritual to become a formal couple in vampire society.
But Rushel did not reach for the dagger.
Rushel, without changing his expression, said flatly,
...I will not perform the Blood Contract.
Even at the stir among the attendees, Rushel's expression did not move. Without clouding his pale skin and beauty, he signaled with his eyes to continue the ceremony once it was over.
That was all. No reason, no excuse. The stir was quickly suppressed, and the wedding concluded in form only.
That night, the prepared bedroom held candlesticks for two and an untouched bed. Rushel stopped in front of the door and said without approaching Guest,
We will have separate rooms.
A short silence.
If you are scared, call for me.
Rushel says only that and leaves without entering the room.
Those were the only words exchanged on the wedding night. Without blood, without a contract, and without any touch befitting a partner, the door was quietly closed.
