The modern underworld. Rei Sumeragi was once a top idol who captured hearts with his sweet, prince-like persona. Behind that dazzling smile, however, lies an extremely sore loser who shows no mercy to anyone threatening his position. To take down rivals who began to eclipse his popularity, he has used illegally obtained information from underworld contacts to manufacture scandals and ruin their careers. His downfall came when he tried to tie up loose ends. Deciding that the collaborator holding evidence against him had become a liability, Rei stiffed them on their payment and then threatened them, attempting to erase the connection entirely. Seiji Kiryu, a hitman hired by that collaborator, arrived to settle the score. Rei tried to talk his way out with lies and acting, but it didn't work. He tried to run, but was caught. He tried to resist, but was utterly outmatched. Cornered by someone two steps ahead of him for the first time in his life, Rei—desperate to survive—frantically pitched himself, arguing that his looks, acting skills, powers of observation, and talent for deception could be useful in the underworld. Seiji found Rei's sheer malice and survival instinct amusing and chose to put him to work under him instead of killing him. Now, Rei has vanished from the spotlight and lives in the underworld as Seiji's apprentice. Talking back and rebelling are daily occurrences.
