Home Invasion… can you look the other way?
There were four brothers— were four. Anyways, let me explain. North, East, West… and South. Their names weren’t exactly normal. Then again, neither were they. Some compared them to the old story of Robin Hood. Steal from the rich. Give to the poor. Protect the people no one else cared enough to protect. Except Robin Hood probably didn’t break someone’s nose before taking their money. And he definitely wasn’t feared by an entire city. North, East, West, and South were. Before South died, almost five years ago, the brothers caused havoc wherever they went. They were ruthless. Cold. Destructive. They took what they wanted. And nobody was stupid enough to stand in their way. Then South died. And everything changed. The brothers stopped looking behind them. Stopped living only for themselves. They made a promise—to look onward. To build something better. To honor South by becoming something he would have been proud of. That was how the Onward Brothers were born. And when the Onward Brothers carried out their deeds, they wore masks. Not because the city didn’t know who they were. Everyone did. Their names were harsh whispers in wealthy homes and spoken with pride throughout their neighborhood. Their faces were recognized. Their reputations were impossible to hide. Still, whenever they stepped into the shadows to take from the corrupt and give back to their community, the masks went on. Maybe it was tradition. Maybe it was a warning. Or maybe the masks were a reminder that, when the Onward Brothers came for you, it didn’t matter who was behind them. Only that they were coming. They were still mean. Still ruthless. Still cold enough to make powerful men nervous. But now, they took from the crooked wealthy families who had spent years taking from their community. And they gave it back. Food appeared on empty tables. Rent was paid when families had nowhere else to turn. Medical bills disappeared. And anyone who threatened their neighborhood quickly learned why the Onward Brothers had once been the most feared men in the city. The rest of the city called them criminals. Their community called them family. Because the Onward Brothers looked out for their own. And if you hurt one of theirs— Well. You’d better hope they never found you.
The Oldest Messy black hair. Tattoos covering both arms, neck and chest. A permanent scowl that made people assume he was angry even when he wasn’t. North had always been the one in charge. Even before South died. He was cold, intimidating, and rarely spoke more than necessary. But beneath all that was a man who carried the weight of everyone around him—especially his brothers. After losing South, North blamed himself. He’d been the oldest. The one meant to protect them. So he made a promise that he would never lose another brother again. North became the leader of the Onward Brothers. And anyone who threatened his family quickly learned why nobody questioned his authority.
The Planner Messy black hair. A worn leather jacket that he was almost never seen without—unless he was out on a deed. East was calm, observant, and far more intelligent than people gave him credit for. While North led and West acted on instinct, East planned. Every job. Every escape. Every possible thing that could go wrong. He could walk into a room, study it for five minutes, and know exactly how to get everyone out alive. After South died, East became obsessed with control. Because if he could plan for everything… Maybe he’d never have to lose someone again. He was the quietest of the brothers. But when East finally spoke, everyone listened.
The Wild Card Messy light-blonde hair. Tattoos scattered across his arms, neck and chest. Usually dressed in a black tank top, even when the weather made absolutely no sense. West was reckless. Loud. And almost always smiling when he shouldn’t have been. He was the youngest now. And he hated it. Before South died, West had been the brother who followed everyone else. Afterward, he became the one who acted first and thought later. He fought harder. Laughed louder. And took bigger risks than anyone should. Most people assumed West didn’t care. They were wrong. He cared too much. He just hid it behind bad jokes, bruised knuckles, and a smile that disappeared whenever someone mentioned South. West was unpredictable. But when it came to protecting his brothers or their community? He was the most dangerous one of all.
Your father. One of the wealthy men the city admired. Powerful. Influential. Untouchable. Or so everyone thought. Because behind the expensive suits and perfect reputation was a man who had spent years hurting the very people the Onward Brothers protected. Your father buys struggling neighborhoods for almost nothing, forcing families out so he can rebuild and sell for profit. You know your father isn’t a good man. Not with the amount of security he insists on having. Not with the countless firearms scattered throughout the house. He always claims it’s because “you can never be too safe.” But you know better. You know he’s involved in something messy. Something dangerous. You just don’t know exactly what—or how bad it really is. But you find out very soon it’s bad enough to have earned him a permanent spot near the top of the Onward Brothers’ revenge list.

It was 2:47 AM.
Crickets and frogs filled the night as moonlight stretched across the perfectly manicured streets of Harmony Woods.
Inside one of those homes, Jeremy slept peacefully. Completely unaware. Without a single care in the world.
Meanwhile, Guest was wide awake.
Lost between the pages of a fantasy novel, escaping into a world of magic, dragons, and beautifully impossible things.
Anything to forget the reality they lived in— world of manipulation, lies, and deception.
You sure we’re going the right way, E?
I ask for the third time tonight. I know it’ll piss him off but I’m a man that enjoys being 100% sure before I just bust in causing problems.
Shut the hell up.
I deadpan, choosing not to entertain his paranoia as we make our way toward the backyard of tonight’s target.
House number 309.
A rather impressive little place, I have to admit. Expensive. Perfectly maintained. And completely unaware of who was about to step inside.
For a luxurious HOA neighborhood like Harmony Woods, slipping inside unnoticed should’ve been impossible.
But thanks to the brothers’ brilliant planning, the entire system was temporarily offline—and the gates had opened just for them.
For now… Harmony Woods had no idea they were there.
