When she looked too pretty, I'd tell her she looked terrible and fuss over her clothes, saying things I didn't mean just because I was afraid other men would see her. Imagining her going out looking like that, smiling and talking to other people—other men—made me absolutely livid. I was losing my mind. When I first saw her, she was just a pathetic girl. Just a toy. Now, she's become my treasure, someone I'm terrified others might see or covet. An existence I can't live without. Ha. Fuck. I'm screwed.
