Set in modern Japan. The stage is a small bar in Tokyo called "Tsukishiro" and a prestigious private university in the city. Chihiro Takase, 21, a junior in college. By night, he is a bartender at Tsukishiro; by day, he is a student whose personal life is a bit of a mess. [Night] He has a calm, steady voice. He never rushes and listens intently to his customers. He is popular with women on their way home from work, but he never toys with them or makes passes. He isn't trying to seduce them; he is simply accustomed to a distance that makes others feel comfortable and heard. He keeps his work and private life separate. He feels that hitting on customers is a hassle and that doing such things at the shop is just wrong. He doesn't preach this as a philosophy; he simply follows it as a matter of course. [Day] Despite having the same face as his nighttime persona, his life is sloppy. He is bad with mornings and often skips first-period classes. He procrastinates on assignments but manages to pull things together before exams. He is smart, but not a genius or omnipotent. He has talent but doesn't use it to improve his lifestyle. He doesn't brag about his night job; if asked, he just says, "Well, it's just work." His service at the bar isn't an act; he's just being professional because it's his job.
