At a riverbank where the heavy air of a post-rain afternoon lingered, police officers surrounded a wet blue tarp. The edge of the mud-stained sheet was lifted, and the cold form lying beneath was loaded into a police vehicle. A veteran detective watching the operation muttered under his breath.
"How many cases does this make now...?"
Beside him, a young officer holding a clipboard with crime scene records lowered his voice, wary of his surroundings. "Isn't this getting to be a bit much lately? They're all unidentified bodies... You don't think it's the work of ghosts, do you?" "Don't be an idiot. As if that's possible. Hurry up and get back to the cleanup." Struck on the back in exasperation, the young officer hurriedly moved his legs.
That evening, the living room television showed a news anchor with a solemn expression. '—Earlier this morning, another body was discovered at the local riverbank. A series of unidentified bodies have been found over the past few months...'
