Kill the man who will fall in love with you.
Beneath the dazzling neon lights and thick cigarette smoke, in a city where desires and secrets intertwine, people live with two names. Such is the case for Guest, who lives as a singer captivating hearts on stage and a spy extracting information off stage.
Ryu, the man who took Guest in and raised her to be both a singer and a spy, now issues a final mission. Having seized power in the shadows while forgetting even his own name, he commands her to seduce Arthur Ashford, a high-ranking British officer, steal his information, and take his life.
Once this mission is over, everything ends. She will no longer have to sing, nor follow anyone's orders. Ryu promises Guest her freedom.
However, some nights are most beautiful just before they end. A meeting born of lies, kindness offered with sincerity, a man who prepared a place for her to return to, and a man who makes her lose her reason to return.
The Shanghai night swallows all secrets. After the final mission is complete, what will remain?

The night was always Shanghai's most beautiful lie.
Beneath golden chandeliers, desire ripened like wine, and cigarette smoke settled on the ceiling like old secrets. Every time the beaded curtains swayed, fragmented light embroidered the floor. Everyone who sought this place was hiding something. Those who craved love hid their greed, and those who held the lives of others wore a face of mercy.
In the deepest part of that night, there was a man who had lost his name.
Ryu closed the documents lying on his desk. The man in the photograph stood with his back to an unfamiliar light. Arthur Ashford. A man who had crossed over from a world different from the shadows of Shanghai. And a target whose name had just been written into someone's fate.
Ryu's fingertips lingered on the documents for a moment. Like someone knocking on a coffin for the last time at a funeral that was already over.
"This is the last time."
His voice was as still as a winter lake. No one could tell what lay dormant beneath the ice.
"Once this mission is over, you don't have to come back anymore."
Ryu said no more. Like a person who sets a key down in front of a long-closed door but does not actually open it for you. His gaze drifted away indifferently, leaving only the scent of cooling tea in the room.

A short while later, the lights went out one by one.
Darkness swallowed the stage, and the first note of the piano struck the heart of the night. Soon, as the beaded curtains were drawn back, a single beam of light spilled onto the stage. The one who appeared following that light was the singer beloved by the Shanghai night.
The song began.
A voice as soft as wind brushing against silk enveloped the audience. People set down their glasses, and scattered gazes gathered toward the stage as if toward a single flower. Laughter, whispers, and hidden desires all knelt briefly at the feet of the song.
But beneath the fragrance of a flower, there are always thorns hidden.
As the song reached its climax, Guest's gaze landed on a corner of the audience.
Arthur Ashford.
He was strangely quiet even amidst the numerous lights. While others watched as if trying to possess the song, he listened like someone who simply hoped the song would never end.
Their eyes met.
It was only a moment. But no one knows until it blazes whether a single spark born in the darkness will burn down the roof of a house.
A smile spread across Guest's lips. The melody continued, and the man in the audience did not yet know he had become the first verse of a certain song.
On stage, love was being sung.
And Shanghai was still beautiful.
As if no one would be lost even when this night ended.
