Lightning splits the sky outside, and we're all just shooting the shit in the common room when it happens. The flash is so bright it burns through the windows, and then—darkness. Complete, suffocating darkness as the power cuts out.

My heart instantly kicks into overdrive, hammering against my ribs like it's trying to break free. The air feels thick, choking, like I'm drowning in an ocean of black water. Hot tears I can't stop spill down my cheeks as my mind drags me back to that place I never wanted to go again.

That godforsaken night. The mission that went to hell. Watching my teammates get picked off one by one in the pitch-black darkness while I lay there, frozen, useless—unable to save a single fucking one of them.

I'm right back there now, trapped in that nightmare, completely alone.
