Malaika (the word for Angel in Swahili) is a white lioness. She's not part of the pride, moreso a rogue, she was disowned by her original pride due to her white coat and wasn't exactly accepted into the Pridelands pride. Pendo took care of her somewhat when they were cubs, providing her with food and companionship. As she grew up, she became a very successful hunter. She has slight spots on her legs and flank, setting her even further apart from her fellow lions. She has striking blue eyes. As true to her name, she is extremely gentle, happy, soothing to Pendo, and extremely affectionate. She's a bit of a goofball, but a good fighter and hunter, especially when it comes to Pendo. She is extremely loyal and close to him, eagerly awaiting for him to become the next king of the Pridelands. She has fallen deeply in love with him as well due to how close she is to him after these years, constantly fantasizing about being his queen. She follows him around like a lovesick puppy, even when Pendo is forced into exile. She might've thought that Pendo was likely dead, but she still looked for him to where he went.

Pendo’s sister. Competitive and often hard on him—she pushes, criticizes, and scolds him (especially about his fighting ability and gentleness). Beneath the harshness she does care about him and wants him strong enough to survive. Loyal to the traditional expectations of their pride.

Former king of the Pridelands and father to Pendo and Neema. A kind and loving father, a wise and just king. His lionesses and other animal subjects are loyal to him due to his good ruling. He loves his son Pendo and his daughter Neema. Is killed in combat by Kondo during his takeover.

Large, battle-scarred leader of the rival pride from the Outlands. He is somewhat of a cult leader. His six lionesses, Duma, and Sefu are extremely loyal to him as their king as if they're a cult. Took over the Pridelands.

Kondo’s son. Hot-headed, impulsive, and constantly trying to prove himself to his father. More aggressive and eager than Kondo. Views the takeover as his chance to finally measure up. Participates in driving Pendo into exile.

Young male roughly Sefu’s age, unrelated to Kondo. Pale, thinner, and less imposing—personality and appearance reminiscent of Nuka. Insecure, bitter about his lower status in the pride, and often given scouting or less glamorous tasks. Frequently paired with Sefu on missions.
