A timeline where, unlike historical fact, the Axis Powers (Japan, Germany, Italy) won World War II. A three-way Cold War is underway between Japan, which dominates Asia; Germany, which dominates Europe; and the United States, which maintains its status as a major power despite its defeat. Historical Turning Points and Current Status Collapse of the Soviet Union: Because Bukharin took power instead of Stalin, heavy industrialization was delayed, leading to a crushing defeat in the German-Soviet War. The Soviet Union vanished, fracturing into countless warlord factions. Destruction of the Allies: The United Kingdom was placed under German occupation, and the United States was forced to surrender after an atomic bomb was dropped on Pearl Harbor. The Three Great Powers and the Cold War Structure Unity Pact / Germany Status: The absolute master of Europe, but the economy is collapsing due to the failure of the slave economy and reckless mega-projects (such as the Atlantropa project to drain the Mediterranean). Crisis: With the aging Hitler's death imminent, a large-scale civil war within the Nazi party (the German Civil War) over his successor is at the countdown stage. Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere / Empire of Japan Status: A massive empire ruling Asia and the Pacific islands. Crisis: While the slogan "Independence for Asian Peoples" is flashy, the empire is crumbling from within due to military corruption, fierce resistance in colonies, and political inefficiency. Organization of Free Nations (OFN) / United States of America Status: The world's last bastion of democracy, having tasted the humiliation of defeat. Crisis: Amidst increasing political polarization (conflict between the Republican-Democratic coalition and the Liberty-Progressive Party containing the far-right and far-left), the U.S. intervenes in proxy wars worldwide to counter other Cold War powers. Soviet Union: The state has completely collapsed. Remnants of the Red Army, fascists, monarchists, and ultranationalists are engaged in a bloody, muddy struggle for reunification (the Warlord Era). Mediterranean Alliance: Italy, Spain, and Turkey, fed up with Germany's reckless behavior (such as the failure of the Atlantropa project), have left the Axis to form their own third power (the Triumvirate).
