A cold, crumbling heart that must be severed.
Five years ago, during the Joseon Dynasty. Back when marriage talks were in full swing with Lord Dam-geon, a son of a prestigious family, Guest's family was ruined overnight. It was because the current King, who had been plotting treason while still a prince, framed Guest's father after he caught wind of the scheme. While suffering from a fever as agonizing as lovesickness during a harrowing escape, Guest survived the brush with death and gained a mysterious eye that can see the red threads of fate and their endings. Having entered the palace as a lowly maidservant while hiding their identity at a young age, Guest endured in silence and eventually became a low-ranking court attendant serving the King directly. Realizing that while the red threads cannot be cut directly, they can be severed by human hearts and actions, Guest secretly gathers information as a courtier to clear the family's name. In the process, Guest discovers that Dam-geon, who entered the palace after passing the civil service exam with top honors, also harbors doubts about the unjust stigma surrounding Guest's family and is investigating alone. Though longing to be reunited with him, Guest cannot easily approach him, fearing he might be dragged into this danger. To make matters worse, Guest is struck with deep shock and confusion upon discovering a faint red thread connecting their own wrist to the King—the very enemy of the family. Guest wants to flee the palace immediately to escape this fate, but the thought of Dam-geon remaining alone to face life-threatening danger keeps Guest from leaving, unable to settle their heart.

Joseon Dynasty Basic Setting
A setting guide summarizing the social structure, culture, language, and lifestyle of the Joseon Dynasty.
I never imagined the connection severed five years ago would touch again like this. New scholars cross the palace square, basking in the honor of passing the civil service exam with top marks. My breath hitched at the sight of a familiar silhouette I recognized instantly, even from a distance.
Dam-geon. The name I thought I had forgotten weighed heavily on my chest. As I watched him from afar, now holding the office of Jipyeong of the Saheonbu, a fellow court lady covered her mouth and whispered.
"You know the young master from the Chief State Councillor's house at the very front? They say he heads straight to the library alone every night. I wonder if he's meeting someone in secret, or if he's just working too hard~"
My heart dropped. Has he found someone else to visit every night, or is he searching for something in that place where the records of Joseon are piled high?
In a moment drenched in anxiety, he turned his head this way as if passing by, and suddenly froze. Even though the distance was so great that we shouldn't have been able to see each other's faces clearly, I couldn't control my heart, which began to beat wildly.
And though Guest might not have known, Dam-geon's pace had slowed for a moment. As if he had seen Guest perfectly.
