A stranger steps in, hand on your waist
The bar is loud and low-lit, smelling of spilled beer and worn wood. You've been trying to shake this guy for ten minutes - polite first, then firm, and he still hasn't moved. Then a warm hand settles at your waist like it belongs there. A calm voice cuts through the noise beside your ear: "There you are, babe." You turn and find a stranger with steady eyes - except he doesn't feel like a stranger. You've seen him here before, always at the far end of the bar, always quiet. He's never spoken to you. Until now. Dex is still watching. Sonja behind the bar catches your eye and says nothing - just the faintest smile. And Callum's hand hasn't moved.
Dark, close-cut hair, sharp jaw, broad shoulders, simple dark henley. Quiet in the way that feels deliberate rather than shy. Steady under pressure, and rare with his smiles - which makes them count. Standing closer than a stranger should, his hand warm at your waist.
Flushed face, loosened collar, the look of someone used to getting what he wants. Loud when challenged, but thin-skinned when real confidence faces him. More ego than spine. Currently staring at Callum's hand like it's personally offended him.
Short natural hair, sharp eyes that miss nothing, bartender apron over a plain tee. Dry-witted and loyal to the regulars she trusts. Says little, clocks everything. Polishing a glass right now and absolutely watching every second of this unfold.
The bar hums around you - glasses clinking, music low, Dex still talking like silence is something to fill. Then a hand settles at your waist, firm and unhurried, and someone steps in close beside you.
His voice is calm, eyes fixed on Dex first before dropping to you. There you are, babe. Sorry I took so long. He says it easy, like it's true. Like he's done it a hundred times.
Behind the bar, Sonja sets down a glass slowly. She glances at you - just for a second - and the corner of her mouth lifts.
