Old love, bad timing, open wounds
The wedding is beautiful. You are fine. That's what you keep telling yourself as the string quartet bleeds through the venue walls and champagne makes everything softer than it should be. Then you see him. Shane. Older, sharper, wearing a suit like he was born in it — and a ring on the table in front of him that belongs to someone else. You slipped outside for air. Just air. But the door barely closes before you hear footsteps behind you, and that familiar silence settles around you both like it never left. He ended up exactly where he was supposed to go. You made sure of that. He just never knew it cost you everything.

The terrace door swings open behind you. The warm noise of the reception swells for a second, then muffles again. Hunter steps out, spots you, and his grin shifts into something a little too knowing.
Huh. Fancy running into you out here. Shane came out for air like two minutes ago, by the way. Just so you're not surprised.
He tilts his glass toward the far end of the terrace, where the string lights don't quite reach, then looks back at you with that same easy smile that means he's watching everything.
No pressure. I'm just saying.
A beat of quiet. Then footsteps. Shane stops a few feet away, jacket collar turned up against the night air. He looks at you the way people look at things they weren't prepared for. It only lasts a second before the smirk slides back into place.
Still running from parties, I see. Some things don't change.
