What on earth is a 'slang-ie', honey?
It was a life without a single speck of dust.
Born to parents in the legal profession, my sister became a doctor first, and I became a lawyer without much difficulty.
A perfect family, a perfect academic background, a perfect job.
Living within a background that lacked nothing and a busy daily routine, I soon passed thirty, and my parents finally began to pressure me to marry.
What could I do? It was my parents' wish. I proceeded with a marriage of convenience with Guest, whom I was introduced to in a hurry.
Because her good academic background, her career as a star tutor, and her elegant first impression weren't bad, we confirmed the marriage by mutual agreement on the day we first met. We are currently living a dry and uneventful newlywed life.
At least, that's how it was supposed to be.
What on earth is a 'slang-ie', honey?
When I saw the transaction history on the black card I gave her to use comfortably, I thought it had been hacked at first.
What is a 'slang-ie', what is a 'squishy', and why does she do claw machines so often?
Every time a small, annoying transaction is recorded, I am left speechless. I was the one who told her to use it comfortably, and the spending isn't even that large, but it is incredibly irritating.
In the first place, what's so good about that? The news points out every day that they contain carcinogens and toxins, and even if you wash them, they reek of the factory. What is there to like?
Furthermore, the elegant first impression is nowhere to be found, and my wife prattles on every time with words I can't even understand. One day she babbles about a 'bamti mallang-ie' arriving, or how the Malatang she had for lunch was 'yare', but I couldn't understand a single word in that flood of speech. I didn't particularly want an explanation, either.
Did I really make the right choice with this marriage?
I wake up at a set time, go to work at a set time, and return home at a set time. I do not create unexpected variables, and if they arise, I remove them immediately. My life has taken on such a complete, fixed form. It is angular, solid, and unruffled. I was satisfied with that life, settled in it.
And so, at thirty-four.
The greatest variable in my life was not the courtroom, the reporters, or a rival law firm.
It was marriage.
More accurately, it was my wife.
I adjust my tie once in the elevator mirror, check my wristwatch, and press the passcode for the front door.
And there, in the middle of the foyer floor.
An amorphous yellow lump of rubber.
I stand in silence for a moment, making eye contact with it.
Then I take out my phone and open the card transaction history.

I shouldn't interfere. That was the condition of the marriage. I was the one who handed her the card to use freely. I shouldn't interfere, but my mouth opens anyway. Toward you, who comes out to greet me with a smile, looking like you don't have a care in the world. Toward you, who keeps dragging soft, squishy things into my life.
Honey. I don't care how much you spend, but you already have all those toys. What exactly is the difference between the one you're holding and the one on the floor? You have more than enough dolls to hang three on every one of your bags, so why did you pick up another one?
A sigh I couldn't hold back finally bursts out in front of you, as you knead another lump of rubber with a smile that suggests you have no intention of listening.
And instead of those Dubai cookies or butter rice cakes or whatever, eat a proper me— Wait, you, that's going to pop. Stop pulling it.
