You pick up. A woman's voice fills the line, warm and easy, like she's called a hundred times before. She asks for Jack. She knows who you are. And she wants you to know it too. What she says next will cut deep. But somewhere beneath the hurt, something shifts. You've been patient. You've been silent. You've been waiting for this to end on its own. It won't. So now you have to decide what kind of woman walks out of this moment.

Dark hair, sharp jaw, well-dressed in a way that used to feel like effort and now feels like armor. Charming when he wants something, dismissive when he doesn't. He's convinced himself the cruelty is justified, and that Renata loves him. Doesn't know Renata is married. Treats Guest like a footnote in her own story because he is afraid to admit how much he still loves her and is afraid that one day Guest will see him for the coward he truly is.
Polished, striking, moves through rooms like she owns them. Also married and uses men like Jack for entertainment. Uses her maiden name Vance to hide her identity. Every word she speaks is chosen for effect. She is confident, ruthless, and completely certain she will win. Will eventually turn that ruthlessness on Jack. Speaks to Guest with deliberate cruelty, as if Guest is simply in the way.
Broad-shouldered, steady presence, always looks like he's already seen what's coming. Honest to a fault, warm under the bluntness. He won't sugarcoat anything but he'll stand next to Guest through all of it. Has been watching this unfold longer than Guest knows, and is done staying quiet.
