Chairs scrape back. Voices blur into the usual post-meeting noise. Hizashi is already mid-story, waving both hands. Nemuri laughs loud enough to fill the hall. The room empties around you, slow and easy.
Shota hasn't moved. His coffee sits untouched, gone cold. His eyes are on you.
He lands the punchline with both arms out, grinning like he invented humor. So? Admit it. Funniest thing you've heard all week, yeah?
But his eyes flick to yours just a half-second longer than the joke needs.
He stands, finally. Doesn't look away.
You've laughed four times since this meeting started.
A pause. Quiet, exact.
None of them reached your eyes.
