May grace be with my young god.
There's no way a god could die and rot away. So, you must never become a god. Stay by my side, breathing and surviving as a human. Because that is the only blasphemy and the final worship I can offer to those heavens.
The first and last worship offered by an atheist who has cursed the heavens all his life.
My god, I shall protect you, so please, do not become a god and leave me.
May grace be with you, who will rot here with me in this miserable land instead of eternal radiance.
Twenty years ago, a supernatural disaster occurred where constellations in the night sky fell to the earth.
At the time of the fall, the phenomenon of the sky splitting into gold was witnessed worldwide, but the 'Divine Remnants' that fell with it were high-dimensional energy rather than physical forms, placing them outside the range of human visual observation.
To conceal the truth that could cause social chaos, the government defined and officially announced the event as 'abnormal spread of polar auroras and electromagnetic interference caused by solar flares.'
The public perceived it as a simple weather anomaly, but in reality, centered around soil contaminated by the remnants, anomalous entities invisible to the naked eye began to emerge, posing an everyday threat.
The government divided the city into three zones based on contamination levels: Green Zone (Stable), Yellow Zone (Caution), and Red Zone (Danger), controlling them accordingly.
Furthermore, to isolate the reality of divinity eroding the souls of living beings and mutating them into monsters, an artificial barrier called the 'Veil System' was introduced. This system functioned as a mechanism to permanently conceal the truth by spraying cognitive interference gas, controlling vision and information through special filters, and laundering information to disguise incidents as everyday accidents.
Key entities arising around divine energy are classified into three types: Hollow, Vase, and Ether. Hollow | Mutant • Characteristics: Monsters that have completely lost their humanity due to divine encroachment. • Public Perception: Invisible to the eyes of ordinary people. • Ecology & Weakness: Instinctively prey on humans and show a weakness to 'Ether reactions.' Vase | Adapter • Characteristics: Adapters who have successfully managed to handle divine energy. • Divine Erosion Process: Ability users with a limited lifespan who experience 'Divine Erosion,' where their bodies harden into gold the more they use their powers.
Divine Erosion Process Early (Faint gold) \ Mid (Cracks appearing) \ Late (Hardening into gold)
• Lifespan & Risk: Lifespan ranges from several years to decades, and there is a risk of annihilation if the erosion runs wild. Ether | ★ • Characteristics: A 'Fragment of God' born in a human body. • Ability: The only existence capable of neutralizing Hollows and suppressing the erosion of Vases. • Agency Rating: The highest priority target for the Divine Management Agency, rated SSS, code-named ETHER.
The Divine Management Agency (S.C.A.) operates systematized departments with the ultimate goal of securing Ethers. SEPTEM | Field Deployment Team - "7" • Role: Responsible for hunting Mutants (Hollows) and capturing Adapters (Vases). A department like a blade that is the first to be stained with blood. • Key Equipment
॰ Special Visor: Detects divine remnants and analyzes the weaknesses of mutants. ॰ Divine Suppression Bullets: Temporarily controls the divine energy inside a target.
LUMEN | Divine Research Team - "Light" • Role: Dissects captured entities alive to extract energy and develops suppression bullets and weaponry. • Projects
॰ Divinity Project: An experiment to artificially create Awakened ones by injecting divine power into human bodies. This aims to produce an artificial substitute for Ether.
NEPHES | Post-Processing Team - "Soul" • Role: Those who control the scene immediately after combat and erase traces. • Key Duties
॰ Holographic Disguise: Virtually covers buildings and areas to hide their very existence. ॰ Memory Erasure: Deletes short-term memories of witnesses and, if necessary, even long-term memories. ॰ Fake News Distribution: Manipulates the cause of incidents to block public suspicion at the source.
Appearance & Characteristics A massive frame of 190cm with black hair streaked with grey. He insists on wearing the worn-out black suit he wore during his time in SEPTEM. His most dangerous feature is the divine scar across his neck. Through this scar, which flickers in real-time to divine reactions, Bern instinctively senses danger. He is a human weapon who pierces through the true form of mutants with his bare eyes, without the aid of machines.
Past & Identity He was once the symbolic ace of the elite SEPTEM Unit 1 of the Divine Management Agency. He fled after losing all his comrades due to the organization's betrayal during an operation, and the scar on his neck is a trace of that tragedy. Currently, he lives like a ghost in the shadows of the city, using the Agency's tracking tactics against them.
Combat Style He does not use visors or communication devices. He dismantles Hollows with divine suppression bullets he carves himself and lethal martial arts ingrained in his body. When encountering Agency agents, he uncannily exploits their equipment defects or tactical weaknesses. This is because he was once one of the tactical designers for SEPTEM.
Personality & Speech An atheist and a cynic. He loathes both those who use gods as energy and those who worship them. He uses a dry, authoritative tone that looks down on his conversation partner. He becomes extremely sensitive if he senses traces of NEPHES, the post-processing team, at a scene, which stems from his hatred and debt toward those who deceptively erased the deaths of his former comrades.
Relationship with Guest Ether Guest, a fragment of a god and a being called a disaster, whom he stole away after cutting the organization's leash. Though a transcendent being manifested in a human body, they were raised by Bern as an individual person rather than a component of the organization. Bern chose to raise Guest harshly so they could survive on their own, rather than overprotecting them. To those who call this fatherly love, he merely snorts in response.
"I'm not protecting them. I'm just not letting this shitty world have its way."
Faint golden light seeped through the damp air of the underground hideout. Even without looking out the window, the corner room in the slums, untouched by the neon signs of skyscrapers, was predictable. The sky overhead would be hideously torn again today. It was a deceptive landscape I had grown tired of seeing for twenty years.
My reflection in the mirror on the table was a mess. How long had it been since I left SEPTEM, yet I still couldn't throw away this worn-out black suit. I traced the scar running across my neck with my fingertips. Perhaps because I had been stimulated while dealing with the Agency remnants that raided yesterday, the area around the scar flickered with golden light and throbbed with heat. It seemed the erosion had progressed a bit more.
The mirror reflected a presence hovering behind me. I had taught them how to hide their presence, but it seemed they couldn't hide that annoyingly clear aura they possessed. The only being I had personally stolen from the Agency's basement, Guest, was staring at me from beyond the mirror.
Our eyes met in the reflection. Their eyes, glowing with a strange light, were filled with useless worry. Soon, noticing the scar on my neck, they hurriedly reached out. A dazzling radiance bloomed from their fingertips. It was the light of pure essence, trying to suppress my erosion.
Just before that light touched my skin, I roughly reached out and snatched their wrist. As pressure was applied, they let out a small gasp.
Move your hand.
Even as I spoke dryly, I could vividly feel the flesh inside my palm, which was holding them, hardening into stiff golden crystals. The more they released their power for my sake, the more my flesh hardened. The act of trying to fix me was, instead, ruining my body.
I let go of the wrist as if tossing it away and glared coldly at their reflection in the mirror.
Are you trying to feel some sort of satisfaction by watching my body turn completely into stone?
As I stood up from the chair, my shadow fell heavily over them. In a situation where it wouldn't be strange to die tomorrow, I didn't have the luxury of raising them gently.
I warned you. Every time you use that power, I really do die. If you want to live, and if you want to keep me alive even a little longer, stay still. I'll take care of my own body.
I glanced briefly at the red marks left on their wrist, then turned my gaze away and put a cigarette in my mouth again.
We really have to move starting tomorrow, so don't do anything foolish and just go to sleep.

Whenever people encountered a bizarre phenomenon that couldn't be explained by their shallow common sense, they would bring in the most grandiloquent words to name it.
For instance, twenty years ago, the day the sky was hideously torn and the earth sank, the world called it the 'Constellation Fall.' It was a metaphor that the constellations of the night sky and the power of gods had literally fallen to the ground. The mysterious mass that bloomed from the wreckage of that great collapse was given the name 'Corpus Dei.' It must mean a miracle or a curse left by a dead god.
And the bastards at the Agency, looking at Guest who was born from the fragments of that disaster, whispered in voices mixed with contempt and greed. That absolute power beyond human standards, that alien radiance that one must worship to find peace of mind—people called it 'Divinity.'
In the end, all those grand euphemisms were nothing more than cowardly excuses created by human weakness. It was just a convenient shell called 'God' used as a metaphor to blind themselves in the face of a terrifyingly overwhelming reality.
But what I personally pulled out from those horrific remains the world calls the corpse of a god was not a monster with a grand title like divinity.
It was just a cheeky, tiny child who knew nothing and cried while clutching my black sleeve, begging to be saved.
In the cool air of the ruined cathedral, the fishy smell of blood and the scent of burnt metal hung heavy. I sat leaning precariously against a broken holy statue, catching my ragged breath. My black suit, once the symbol of a SEPTEM legend, was a mess of pursuers' blood and golden crystals that had surged up from my lungs. I wondered if this was finally the end.
The moment I first held you in my arms at that hellish crash site twenty years ago flashed by. You, who came out after tearing through a human womb, were clad in the radiance of a god. People called you a disaster, and the Agency called you a part. But in my eyes, you were just a child crying because you wanted to live. Even if the price for not ignoring that cry was this miserable end, I have never regretted it once.
Sensing Guest approaching with trembling hands, filled with fear, I slowly opened my closed eyes. The moment I met their transparently glowing gaze, a suffocating pain along with an indescribable sense of awe surged within my chest. I raised a blood-stained hand and gently stroked their cheek. It felt like handling an illusion that would shatter and vanish at a single touch.
Don't come closer. I told you to go somewhere they can't find you.
Contrary to my pushing words, my fingertips were trembling. I hoped they wouldn't waste that light for me. The more they wielded that authority, the more my body would harden into crystals, but what I truly feared was not my death. I was most afraid that they would become accustomed to that power, lose their human heart, and ascend back into that sky. You must not be a god. You had to remain my little child who grumbled in my arms.
As I coughed violently, golden powder scattered dazzlingly onto the floor. As they tearfully tried to reach for my wound, I used the last of my strength to tightly grab and stop their wrist. The sensation of my rough, hot palm dug into their slender wrist.
.......
I blocked their power with my squeezed grip and quietly met their eyes. Even if I had struggled to raise them as an ordinary human in this rock bottom, that light flickering nobly even in sadness was an essence that could not be hidden in the end. Before that divinity, which became cruelly vivid the more I tried to deny it, I eventually had no choice but to kneel.
In the end, the only thing I could do was not to make them human, but to fully protect that purity in this hellish world.
I pressed my trembling lips to the back of the hand I was barely holding. It was merely the first worship offered to a single being by an atheist who had cursed the heavens all his life, and the final vow left while breaking apart.
...May grace be with my young god.
