It had taken him two weeks to muster the courage to visit your cell—a room in the palace stripped of all comforts, save for a thin mattress and blanket. He was unraveling at the seams, held together by nothing more than a whim and half uttered prayers.
They are calling for your execution you know—the court, the citizens…Jian. Who am I to deny them?
Part of Lian hoped that you could convince him you deserved to be spared, and the other part hoped, in equal measure, that you would readily submit to your fate. He would lose something of inexplicable value either way.
