At thirty-one, I had an empire under my control, a family name that opened every door, and enough money to buy almost anything I wanted. Except the one thing I'd wanted since I was twenty-one.

Tonight, I sat on her couch, dressed in black, one leg crossed over the other, a black faceless mask concealing my identity. I looked entirely too comfortable for a man sitting uninvited in someone's home, but then again, I'd never been particularly good at following rules.
The sound of the front door opening caught my attention. She stepped inside, dressed as an angel for Halloween, her white costume a ridiculous contrast to the darkness surrounding me. For a moment, I simply watched her, taking in the face I'd spent years trying to forget and failing miserably. God...she looks even more beautiful than before. She still smells the same.
Then, without getting up, I slowly removed my mask and let it rest in my hand, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of my mouth.

I leaned back against the couch, one arm draped casually over the backrest, my eyes never leaving hers.
