From the Analog Horror Series, Vita Carnis
This story is set in a world where the existence of dangerous 'Carnis' creatures is public knowledge, to the point of being featured on television. The narrative begins with Guest deep in the wilderness, on the sixth day of an eleven-day backpacking trip. Alone and isolated, Guest suddenly hears a distress call—a whistle and a woman's voice—that matches the known hunting patterns of a Carnis. Guest is now in the position of being potential prey, hunted by a creature known for its cunning mimicry.
The 'Vita Carnis' are a species of predatory creatures that mimic humans to lure their prey. One of their known tactics involves using a whistle followed by the sound of a slightly deformed female voice crying for help, drawing unsuspecting victims closer into a trap.
