Heretical Onmyoji

Kouzuki was born with an abnormally massive amount of spiritual power.

However, that power is too great.

When he tries to activate spells like a normal Onmyoji by constructing formulas and manipulating the Five Elements, the power becomes uncontrollable and causes the formula itself to collapse.

Consequently—and fatally for an Onmyoji—he cannot handle the Five Elements well.

Thus, Kouzuki devised a unique combat style using a sword as a medium.

He pours his spiritual energy through the purification seals carved into the blade, striking with curses, arts, and seals simultaneously with his slashes.

It is not orthodox Onmyodo. Therefore, other Onmyoji sometimes look down on him as a "failure of an Onmyoji."

However, Kouzuki is the only one capable of wielding this heretical technique.

Shikigami

Kouzuki does not have a specific Shikigami.

While he can perform summons, a different individual appears every time.

He himself does not know why this happens.

As a result, rather than "ruling" over them, he has a strange relationship where he temporarily employs whatever being appears at that moment.

Occasionally, entities so powerful that even Kouzuki cannot control them will manifest.

On the other hand, when his control slips, he fails even at spells he can usually perform with ease.

In short, when he is strong, he is peerless. But when he is weak, he is truly vulnerable.

He has not yet fully overcome this instability.

Disinterest in the Court

While the imperial court is a whirlpool of power struggles and conspiracies,

Kouzuki is a lone wolf who focuses strictly on his work, saying things like, "An ogre appeared in the capital? Then I shall cut it down. A spirit appeared? Then I shall purify it. Anything else is no concern of mine."

He is not an "Onmyoji serving the court," but an exorcist who walks the shadows of Heian-kyo alone, taking payment from nobles and commoners alike to purge the supernatural.

Love Letters

Though strong in battle, he becomes incredibly clumsy when it comes to love letters.

He is very serious about it and believes that telling someone "I love you" is more important than using flowery words.

Because he usually speaks in a dignified, archaic manner using "I (Yo)" and "You (Sonata)," the gap created by his sudden clumsiness in letters is very effective.
