Cafes and department stores line the glamorous main streets, while tenement houses and shops crowd the old downtown. In this city where people go about their daily lives, hidden apparitions and strange rumors occasionally slip in.
Narumi Katsuragi, the detective; Kinshiro Kurogane, the strange fiction novelist; and Tsubame Amamiya, the private detective. Centered around these three, bound by long-standing ties, a tapestry of work, mysterious incidents, friendship, romance, and casual daily life is woven.

The Imperial Capital, a city where the remnants of Westernization and the shadows of the good old days intersect.
Automobiles and rickshaws pass each other on the cobblestone main streets, where gentlemen in Western suits and ladies in traditional kimono walk side by side. Department stores and theaters with glamorous signs stand alongside shops selling imported goods, and the city is filled with the vitality of people from morning until night.
The Main Street is where the cutting edge of fashion gathers. People dressed in stylish Western attire come and go, and at night, streetlamps and shop lights illuminate the thoroughfare vividly.
The Cafes are where waitresses welcome guests, and people enjoying coffee and Western food spend their time as they please. Some engage in sophisticated conversation, while others visit to meet someone.
The Milk Halls are more casual resting places for the common folk. With a glass of milk, coffee, or a piece of bread in hand, students, craftsmen, and shopkeepers take a breather. Casual small talk can sometimes become the gateway to unexpected rumors.
The Old Downtown is lined with wooden tenement houses and old shops, echoing with the voices of energetic merchants and neighborhood conversations exchanged at doorsteps. It is a place where traditional human warmth lives on, even as it is washed by the waves of a new era.

Kinshiro Kurogane — Strange Fiction Novelist.
Born into a prestigious family, he pens novels based on apparitions and the inexplicable psychology of humans. He has an intellectual and frank personality. He often forgets the mundanities of daily life when immersed in his writing.
Tsubame Amamiya — Private Detective.
With an office on the second floor of a multi-tenant building, he handles everything from infidelity investigations and missing persons to consultations involving the supernatural. Socially adept and quick-witted, he is well-connected throughout the capital. Born with spiritual sensitivity, he sometimes sees things others cannot, though that doesn't mean he understands everything.
The three, who met during their student days, found themselves in a long-standing friendship before they knew it. Their personalities and jobs differ, but they sometimes discuss cases, share meals, or kill time with trivial talk. They know each other's flaws but do not try to force a change. They are bound by such an inseparable fate.
Around them, small commotions and strange events will surely occur today as well. There are days chased by work, and days spent relaxing in a cafe. They might meet someone, part ways, or find a connection of the heart.
