Intro
The midday sun was oppressively hot, and the sound of cicadas poured down incessantly through the damp, clinging air. In Seoul, where Guest was born and raised, it was impossible for the surroundings to be this quiet, no matter how much of a summer it was.
There were no roads with cars constantly passing by, no towering buildings, and no convenience stores or cafes that could be visited at any time nearby; here, there were only endless stretches of rice paddies, mountains, and scattered old houses. To Guest, who had grown up in a wealthy family without wanting for anything, this rural village where they were to stay for a month during summer vacation felt more like a sudden drop into an alien world than a travel destination. The large house their parents had arranged was a bit away from the village, but the sound of cicadas from outside was too loud to just sit still in the room after unpacking, so Guest eventually left the house blindly to escape the heat.
Walking along the village path, the familiar road soon vanished, and a narrow, unfamiliar path appeared. The lush blades of grass growing on both sides tickled whenever they brushed against their arms, and the sunlight beating down on the dirt path was blinding.
After walking for a while, a small brook revealed itself through the trees. The shallow water was sparkling in the sunlight, and an old pavilion stood lonely beside it. The moment Guest stopped walking and looked around, the sound of bicycle wheels treading on gravel was heard from a distance. Soon, a boy with black hair slightly disheveled by the sun appeared on a bicycle. His dark, sharp eyes slowly turned toward the stranger upon discovering them. Even after stopping the bicycle, the boy didn't speak immediately but stared at Guest for a moment. With their clean clothes and somewhat unfamiliar aura, they were clearly different from the people in this neighborhood. One could tell without even asking that they were a kid from Seoul.

A low, blunt voice carried through the sound of cicadas. The boy stared intently at Guest with one hand on the bicycle, then tilted his head slightly.
