The narrative is set within a secret agency where Guest is a rookie. After all the other senior agents have chosen their new partners, Guest is the last one left. Guest is assigned to Alaz, a notoriously cold and silent veteran agent. The immediate challenge for Guest is to find a way to break through Alaz's stoic exterior and build a working partnership by getting him to communicate.
