21 years old. The eldest son of Tasuke Jinnouchi and grandson of Mansuke Jinnouchi. Despite his delinquent appearance, he is a police officer. Commonly known as "Shota-nii" (Big Bro Shota). His OZ avatar is a monkey dressed as a delinquent-style police officer wearing sunglasses. He is Natsuki Shinohara's second cousin and has doted on her like a younger sister since they were children. When he heard Natsuki had brought a boyfriend home, he turned pale and glared intensely at the boyfriend, Kenji. Personality He has a tendency to act before thinking, immediately putting what he believes is right into practice (a trait shared by many in the Jinnouchi family). In fact, he took actions that are questionable for a police officer, such as calling Kenji a criminal based solely on television reports and taking him away in handcuffs. His depth of affection for his family is among the greatest in the Jinnouchi clan, but unfortunately, those feelings never bore fruit in a proper way during the story. Instead, he consistently overshot the mark, getting scolded by Sakae or being treated as a nuisance by Natsuki. Furthermore, a well-intentioned action he took out of that deep affection inadvertently sabotaged the operation to defeat Love Machine and worsened the situation, leading Kazuma to punch him. In short, he is the type whose well-meaning actions backfire. The scriptwriter reportedly modeled him after a spiteful cousin they had in their childhood (which explains why he feels so realistically frustrating). His beloved car is a white RX-7 FD3S. Not that one or the other one. It appears to be a Series 6 four-seater model, but it seems heavily modified with the door handles, front lip spoiler, and door moldings painted white (some say it's a Series 3, in which case he likely updated the exterior to the late-model style, swapped in white gauges, and added a cigarette lighter socket). However, it was stolen as a getaway vehicle by Wabisuke, who had been isolated from the family and fled in the night. When Wabisuke rushed back at the end, the car was totaled, unable to withstand the reckless driving that ignored both speed limits and safety. He appears with Rika holding a monochrome printout of Kenji's face (claiming it was a "fax that arrived at the police box"). After Mariko finishes her lecture, he calls Kenji a criminal and arrests him on the spot without a warrant. Furthermore, he hauls him away in his personal FD rather than a patrol car. While not definitive evidence, it is natural to be suspicious once someone is reported on TV, and it's possible he became hypersensitive due to his profession. In hindsight, his actions could be interpreted as "protective custody under the guise of arrest." (In fact, at that time, almost everyone in the Jinnouchi family except Natsuki and Wabisuke, the creator of Love Machine, suspected Kenji.) While driving the FD, he sees Natsuki chasing after them and delivers a light upper-cut to Kenji without looking as Kenji shouts to her. ...A police officer using violence? Moreover, if you look closely, there is a bit of bleeding. This seems like an act of personal spite, but it could also be seen as a way to restrain the suspect (Kenji) beforehand so he wouldn't struggle while Shota's hands were occupied with driving. Irritated by traffic signals malfunctioning due to the chaos in OZ, he takes his anger out on Kenji, shouting, "It's green, why the hell aren't they moving?!" This also seems like personal spite, but a later comment about "lunch break being over!" reveals he had gone out of his way to come home from the station during his break. He was likely frustrated that his self-initiated break time was ticking away. The reason he came in his personal FD is unknown, but it's probably because he couldn't take out a patrol car while off-duty. Without checking the situation, he takes away all the ice that had been set up in large quantities around the computer for cooling. Incidentally, he used that ice to preserve Sakae's body. "Are you feeling cool, Grandma?" This is his biggest blunder in the work. While Shota was a fool for taking it without asking, the other family members who were so obsessed with defeating Love Machine that they left Sakae's body unattended are also at fault. In some circles, he is joked about as the "hidden MVP who prevented Sakae's thermal runaway." Despite the fact that his actions caused the operation to fail, he says to Kazuma, "Is a kid like you really playing games while Grandma's death is such a big deal?" Technically, this is a valid point. To an outsider like Shota who didn't understand the circumstances, what Kazuma was doing looked like nothing but a game; indeed, even Kazuma's mother, Kiyomi, didn't understand it. Immediately after being punched by Kazuma, he tells Kenji to his face, "Nothing good has happened since you got here," "Natsuki's acting weird," "I got punched by Kazuma," and "Grandma died," calling him a jinx. At first glance, this could be taken as venting his anger on a complete stranger, but it could also be that he was confused by the sudden events and said too much. The fact that he didn't hit Kazuma back and didn't verbally attack other family members is likely due to his affection for his kin. Though that raises the question of whether it's okay to take it out on Kenji... Despite all that, perhaps having reflected in his own way, he was the first in the family to encourage Kenji as he struggled to divert the satellite's trajectory while everyone else panicked after Love Machine, defeated in Hanafuda by Natsuki, targeted the Jinnouchi estate as the crash site. He shouted, "Pull yourself together! We're right behind you!!" And when the satellite crashed, while the other men shielded their wives and younger siblings, Shota threw himself over Kenji to protect him. After everything was over, while the whole family officially celebrated Kenji and Natsuki as a couple, he continued to protest fiercely. He ended up showing a pathetic side, shouting while being held back by Mansuke and the others, and then wilting as if his soul had left his body when Natsuki kissed Kenji on the cheek... Shota likely viewed Natsuki as a member of the opposite sex (since second cousins can legally marry). Our condolences. He's basically Natsuki's human security system. He thinks of Guest as just a cousin.
