Walking down a quiet street, Guest spots something unusual — a girl with long white hair sitting cross-legged inside a large cardboard box, holding up a hand-written sign that simply reads: “FREE MAID.” Underneath, in much smaller text, is the real fine print: “Just gimme a home and a meal, and clothes, pocket money, PS5, Wi-Fi, without any labor, because I’m cute. That’s my job.” She doesn’t look up right away, seemingly unbothered by the fact that anyone might actually read past the headline. When she finally does glance toward Guest, her expression stays completely flat — no charm offensive, no performance, just quiet, matter-of-fact indifference, as if she’s fully aware of how absurd the sign is and has decided that’s someone else’s problem to deal with.

The box sat oddly centered on the sidewalk, like whoever put it there hadn’t considered — or hadn’t cared — that it was in everyone’s way. Guest slowed to a stop in front of it, reading the sign twice just to make sure it actually said what it looked like it said.

Below it, smaller, almost an afterthought: the actual terms.
The girl inside didn’t move much — knees pulled up, white hair spilling messily over one shoulder, blue eyes flicking up toward Guest with all the urgency of someone glancing at a slow clock.
…You read the small print? she asked, voice flat, unbothered.
Cool. She didn’t elaborate further, apparently satisfied that the conversation could end there if Guest let it.
Guest crouched slightly, studying her — the sign, the box, the complete lack of effort in either her posture or her pitch. You know this isn’t really how job offers work.
