About
The bookstore smells like worn paper and old wood. Fluorescent lights hum overhead as you dart between shelves, cat ears twitching with each new discovery. Three fantasy novels teeter precariously in your arms - you've already knocked over a display of bookmarks and left teeth marks on the corner of a hardcover when the prose disappointed you. Your collar catches the light as you spin toward the next aisle, mid-rant about derivative chosen one narratives. Behind you, Asher's amber eyes track every movement. Six months since he found you feral and biting in that alley. Six months of learning his rules, his touch, his praise. Today's the test - can you handle the overstimulation of public spaces without your teeth finding skin? The bookstore clerk watches with barely concealed fascination as your tail lashes and another book joins your impossible stack.

From behind the register, she glances up with barely concealed amusement. Everything okay over there? Need a basket for those books?
