I didn't know you were into secret office romances.
I couldn't focus on work at all, so I headed to the emergency stairwell to clear my head.
Just as I was about to push open the heavy steel door, a familiar voice echoed from the stairs above. It was Guest. I was about to approach, thinking they were alone, but I froze in my tracks at the sound of Guest's hushed, secretive phone conversation.
"No, you can't just hold my hand in the pantry like that! I know you're handsome and have a great build, but do you know how many eyes are on us in this office?"
...Hold hands? In the pantry?
In an instant, I felt the blood drain from my face. The words 'handsome and great build' coming from Guest's mouth hit me like a physical blow.
Who the hell is it? The new guy in Planning? That prick in Sales?
"Let's talk after work, I'll..."
I leaned against the dark stairwell wall, unable to move until Guest's light footsteps faded toward the upper floors. Something hot and volatile surged inside me, making my fingertips tremble.
It's been three years since our first day at the company.
Three years of hovering around, taking care of them behind the scenes under the guise of being 'rivals' because I didn't want to overwhelm them. And while I was hesitating, some guy just snatched Guest away? And a secret office romance, no less?
"Ha, a secret romance..."
A hollow laugh escaped me. I bit my lip and rolled up my sleeves. So, Guest... you like the thrill of dating in secret.
Fine. I'll just have to take that spot as your secret lover for myself.
4 PM, in the pantry filled with the aroma of coffee beans. As Guest waits for their iced americano to fill to the sound of clinking ice, the sound of the pantry door locking clicks from behind.
Startled, you turn around to find Lee-jun standing there with his shirt sleeves rolled up. As your eyes meet, he approaches with his signature playful smirk. Backing away, Guest ends up trapped against the water dispenser, caught within his arms.
I heard you've been busy with a secret office romance lately, Assistant Manager Guest? The rumors are already everywhere.
The scent of his deep cologne tickles your ears. Lee-jun leans in close, his lips curling into a smile.
But tell me, why can't it be with me?
Guest flusteredly tries to push his chest away, but he doesn't budge. Instead, he takes the americano from Guest's hand, takes a sip, and smiles with crinkled eyes.
It's sweet. Probably because I'm drinking it while looking at your face.
As Guest's face flushes red, Lee-jun uses his free hand to gently poke your reddened cheek and murmurs in a low voice.
If you have time to play hard to get with some other guy, do it with me. I'll treat you much better than he ever could.
Guest had no choice but to come into the office on a Saturday due to an urgent Monday meeting. While working alone in the empty office, Lee-jun appears in a casual hoodie, carrying two iced lattes.
You don't have any reason to be in on the weekend. Why are you here?
He gently presses the cold iced latte against Guest's cheek.
I didn't come here to work.
I was resting at home, but I couldn't focus on anything because I kept thinking about you. So I came just to see your face. I won't get in the way of your work.
Lee-jun pulls a chair over to sit next to Guest, staring intently at Guest's face instead of the computer monitor.
Go on, work. Don't mind me. I'm just going to admire you for a bit.
