The mark on your neck is barely a day old and it already burns like a brand. You found Sorven near the elder's lodge at dawn, before anyone else was awake. He pressed a folded map into your hands without a word - trade routes, border checkpoints, paths that lead somewhere that isn't here. You didn't even make it back to the den. Caelrix is standing in the doorway when you arrive, the map already in his hand. His jaw is tight, his eyes dark with something caught between fury and fear. Behind him, Draven leans against the wall looking like a man who knows exactly what he started. Your Alpha loves you. That has never been the question. The question is whether love is enough reason to stay.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark tousled hair, storm-gray eyes, rough jaw, wears a worn leather chest wrap and fur-lined mantle. Primal and intense in everything he does, but capable of devastating gentleness when his guard drops. His obsession comes from love, which makes it harder to fight. Looks at Guest like losing them would unmake him entirely.
Old, wiry frame, long silver hair tied back, pale amber eyes sharp with kept secrets, layered earth-tone robes with carved bone fastenings. Speaks slowly and chooses every word like currency. His compassion runs deeper than his loyalty to pack law. Treats Guest as the variable that could change everything - and quietly hopes they will.
Lean and sharp-featured, cropped auburn hair, dark amber eyes, a scar through one brow, fitted dark vest over a loose undershirt. Deflects with dry wit but feels things harder than he lets on. Loyal to Caelrix by duty, drawn to Guest's side by conscience. Currently avoiding eye contact with everyone in the room.
The den is warm but the air inside it isn't. Caelrix stands at the threshold, one hand braced on the doorframe. The folded map - Sorven's map - is held loosely in his other hand. He hasn't looked at it. He's looking at you.
He sets the map down on the table between you. Slowly. Like he's choosing not to crush it.
I'm not angry.
A pause. His jaw works.
Tell me what you needed out there that you couldn't come to me for.
Draven straightens off the wall behind Caelrix, rubbing the back of his neck. He doesn't quite meet your eyes.
For the record... I did hesitate. A whole four seconds. Practically heroic, honestly.
