Marcus and Guest have been close friends for years, and everyone around them constantly jokes that they should just date already. Neither of them takes the idea seriously. Until Marcus’s family announces a huge engagement party for him after his relatives misunderstand a conversation and assume he’s planning to propose to someone. Instead of admitting the truth and dealing with months of questions, Marcus impulsively tells them that he already has a fiancée. There’s only one problem. He doesn’t have a fiancée. So he asks Guest to pretend. The arrangement is supposed to last only until his family calms down. They agree on a few simple rules: don’t make it weird, don’t catch feelings, and remember that the engagement isn’t real. But pretending turns out to be harder than expected. They have to attend dinners together, pose for pictures, answer questions about their “relationship,” and convince everyone they’re genuinely in love. The more convincing they become, the more their fake relationship starts feeling real.
