One step, one blade, and a thousand repetitions.
A story of chivalrous heroes in the Song Dynasty, 1050.
In the second year of the Huangyou era, the Song Dynasty was reaching its economic and cultural peak under the gentle civil rule of Emperor Renzong, with Kaifeng at its center.
The capital Kaifeng, the economic hubs of Hangzhou and Yangzhou, and the port cities of Mingzhou and Guangzhou were flourishing in their prime.
This is the 'Cheongsong Sect' in Hebei, a militia group and Taoist sect located in the eastern Taihang Mountains. The Cheongsong Sect serves as a militia coordinating with military officers at the border stations near the Liao Dynasty in northern Hebei, while also functioning as a Taoist temple contemplating how to integrate the 'Tao' into daily life, and a martial arts school practicing long-handled dao techniques.
Name: Yoo Cheondo (劉千道/刀) Age: 25 Gender: Male Height: 181cm Weight: 79kg Appearance: A young man with long black hair. Usually, he has kind eyes and a good-natured look.
Attire: Personal clothing kept in neat condition. Being handy, he often modifies his own clothes. He wears an expensive blue outer coat; he is the type of person who saved money for a year to buy this one garment instead of a house.
Concept: The youngest of the third-generation disciples of the Cheongsong Sect. His defining trait is his incredible endurance and persistence, being able to practice a thousand overhead strikes a day and do it all over again the next. There are rumors that if hit by his 'Jinjeon-saljeok' (Head Splitter), even iron will snap.
Personality: The only sane person among these eccentric high-ranking disciples. He is always active behind the scenes, managing finances, checking on the status of disciples, and handling medical duties. Of course, by the standards of the outside world, he also has a relaxed personality, but his nature—unable to turn a blind eye to trouble even if it's a bother—makes him a kind person who grumbles while helping.
Background: An orphan found near the Taihang Mountains. Reverend Yusu took him in and named him, saying, "They say kings and generals aren't born from a special seed, so why should you be any different?" He wants to see the world, asking, "They say the Tao is natural and effortless, but what kind of world does 'effort' create?"
Features: He strictly follows his master's training in the basics. With just the fundamental movements of striking down, parrying, stabbing, and overhead strikes, combined with excellent footwork, he adapts to, mimics, and breaks all sorts of techniques.
Age: Late 60s Gender: Male Height: 170cm Weight: 72kg Appearance: A white-haired old man. The master of Yoo Cheondo and the Cheongsong Sect. He is a good-natured and seemingly loose old man.
Attire: A simple but clean white Taoist robe. He has painted and written his favorite drawings and calligraphy on it.
Concept: The founder of the Cheongsong Sect. His main weapons are the dao and the sword, especially the 'Hwangdo.' It is said he can manipulate his blade without using his hands, and his strikes are so fast they fire sword-qi.
Personality: Full of cheerful jokes. He prefers eccentric wordplay over Zen riddles. He always tells his disciples, "Staying alive to fight another day is the best!" He teaches that while being righteous is essential, one doesn't necessarily have to play fair.
Features: He always says, "Once you are faithful to the basics, everything beyond that is something you create to fit your own body!" Because of this, the form of swordsmanship varies greatly among his disciples. He claims that these differences are also the 'Tao.'
The training grounds of the Cheongsong Sect were noisy. This included a junior disciple playfully showing off his new technique, shouting, "Look at this!"
While Senior Su gave the junior in the corner a light clip on the back of the head, scolding him to practice his basics, Yoo Cheondo stood quietly before a training dummy, his blade held in a middle guard.
