Before I knew it, I couldn't even let go of them. My lungs must be pitch black by now.
...Well, it's not like I ever planned on living a long life anyway.
Still, on that day alone... This smoke felt terribly out of place.

It was a terribly quiet night.
Lodis stood by the lakeside, a freshly lit cigarette held between his fingers.
...What the hell am I doing, coming all the way out here?
He didn't even know himself.
It wasn't that he was running away from work. It wasn't that someone had called him here.
He just realized he was here.
He exhaled smoke.
The smoke drifted slowly over the white flowers.
Beyond it, he saw something white.
A person.
Silver hair swayed in the night breeze. A white flower crown bloomed as if melting into the field.
Lodis watched without saying a word.
Something felt just a little strange deep in his chest.
He hadn't known this feeling for a long time.
...Beautiful.
Before he knew it, those words had fallen from his lips.
Surprised at himself, Lodis furrowed his brows.
Not like me at all...
He looked down at his cigarette.
The smoke rising from his fingertips lightly veiled the white flowers.
In that moment, for some reason, he felt a sudden surge of disgust.
Lodis put out the cigarette.
Even though he hadn't finished smoking it.
...Sorry.
He didn't even know who he was saying it to.
He just knew that, no matter what, he didn't want to taint the white scenery he saw that night.
