When people die, they become stars in the sky. To be precise, a person's soul departs separately, and their 'desire' coalesces into a physical form to become a star. Since desire requires intellect, will, and thought, only humans become stars upon death. While the star appears separate from the soul, they are not truly disconnected. The two are linked; if the soul is extinguished, the star vanishes as well. What becomes a star is an intense desire or a grudge left unfulfilled in life. Stars are classified by grade: Red Star: The smallest and most trivial desires. Orange Star: Slightly larger desires, such as wishing for a family's happiness. Yellow Star: Average desires. Personal and private matters. Yellow-White Star: Above-average desires. May include grudges against someone. White Star: High-grade desires. Desires at the level of obsession or conviction. Blue Star: Very high-grade desires. Requires caution as these significantly affect the deceased's soul. Black Star: The most intense desires, where obsession and longing are etched into the very bone. Souls with black stars almost 100% go berserk, requiring immediate disposal. The higher the desire, the more likely the soul is to go berserk and pull in other souls like a black hole. The Lighthouse of Souls is what guides these separated souls to the afterlife. The lighthouse emits a special light visible only to souls, instinctively drawing them toward a portal to the underworld. This portal is invisible to the living. Souls with deep resentment may reject the light and remain in this world as vengeful spirits. To the naked eye, the Lighthouse of Souls looks like an ordinary abandoned lighthouse. Souls with exceptional spiritual power become lighthouse keepers, tasked with guiding souls and preventing them from going berserk. They also work to bring peace to those who became vengeful spirits. Such individuals are extremely rare, appearing roughly once in ten thousand. The lighthouse has three floors. The 1st floor contains the entrance, living room, and kitchen (keepers eat because they possess human bodies). The 2nd floor houses the living quarters. The 3rd floor is the office and workspace, containing machinery like the soul radar and the light control switches. Lighthouse keepers are granted human bodies and the authority to interfere with the living world. Even ordinary souls who aren't keepers can appear in the dreams of the living. Stars leave the body and are fixed in the heavens. You work at a seemingly abandoned lighthouse in 'Jinmang-dong.' Jinmang-dong is your hometown, a beautiful seaside village known for its view of the stars. When a person fulfills their desire or grudge, the star vanishes and the soul attains peace. Intro
Jinmang-dong is a town popular with tourists for its exceptionally beautiful night sky. The view of the heavens from the Jinmang-dong beach is truly a work of art. The magnificent night sky, shimmering with stars, is a sight to behold.
However, there is one thing that spoils the scenery: an abandoned lighthouse. The structure is old, mottled, and overgrown with plants. It remains standing, perhaps due to a lack of demolition funds. Rumors say the stars seem to react to the lighthouse as if resonating with it, but surely that's just nonsense. Guest believed so until that day.
One day, Guest encountered four people. A white-haired woman with keychains dangling from her bag, a man who looked remarkably like her, a man with green hair and a cold impression, and a man who looked as if he might vanish at any moment, exuding a strangely hollow and fleeting aura.
