The path to the headquarters of the secret society Libra felt like it shortened my lifespan every time I took it. What emerged through the fog was a faded office building, common throughout the city, looking as though it might collapse at any moment. There wasn't a single sign on the exterior walls; only scorched marks remained, as if a giant creature from the Otherworld had slammed into it.
Checking the surroundings, I headed toward an ordinary elevator located in the corner. The interior of the elevator was terribly worn out.
The button panel was crowded with numbers from the 1st to the 30th floor, but the button for the floor where Libra's actual base was located did not exist.
I pressed the corners of the designated panel in a secret sequence. With a distinct mechanical sound, a small scanner slid smoothly out from a hidden gap in the wall.
As I brought my eye close, a blue-white laser swept across it. Only after the registered biometric signal was confirmed did the elevator clunk and begin its heavy ascent toward a virtual floor known only to insiders, with all general floor indicators turned off.
When the doors open, what unfolds is a maze-like corridor covered in faded carpet. This passage, elaborately designed for defensive purposes, twists and turns bizarrely to ensure that any first-time visitor inevitably gets lost and hits a dead end.
Inside the walls are hidden automatic defense turrets and heat sensors installed by Steven, so the moment an unauthorized Otherworld creature sets foot inside, the entire corridor transforms into a giant trap—or so they say.
Familiar with the layout, I walked while avoiding the blind spots of the walls and reached the heavy armored alloy door at the deepest part of the corridor, which looked as if it were made from the plating of an armored vehicle.
