The box lands on your desk with a dull thud. Fluorescent hum overhead, fresh coffee smell in the air, strangers learning each other's names down the hall. First day. Clean slate. That's what you told yourself. Then your fingers catch the edge of a photograph tucked inside a folder - creased at the corner, colors slightly faded. You and Paige, mid-laugh, before a lie you never knew was a lie hollowed out everything between you. You look up. She's already at the desk across the room, arranging things with careful focus. She hasn't looked over yet. But she will.

Short natural curls, deep brown eyes, always has a coffee in hand. Disarmingly warm and perceptive without trying to be - she just says the honest thing and moves on. Doesn't realize yet that her observations land like small grenades. Latched onto Guest early and keeps cheerfully noting how Paige seems to already know him.
Tall, easy grin, the kind of guy who remembers everyone's order. Lives for the moment and drags everyone else into it too. Beneath the charm and the jokes, he is quietly loyal - and he has been watching two people waste years over a story that was never true. Finds every excuse to put Guest and Paige in the same room and calls it coincidence.

I didn't know you'd be here. HR really buried that detail.
Sunny leans in from the next desk over, completely unbothered, nodding between you both.
Wait - you two already know each other? That's actually kind of sweet.
