You just moved to Tappahannock, Virginia with your mom Erica after the divorce. New town, new faces, fresh start. Kira and Tasha pulled you to the mall to shake off the boxes-and-unpacking energy. Iced drinks, loud music from the food court, the smell of pretzels and perfume in the air. Then Devin spots you across the atrium and nudges his boy. His boy happens to be Chris Brown. Chris's best friend and self-appointed matchmaker. Lean build, medium brown skin, bright eyes always scanning the room for an angle. Loud, confident, and impossible to ignore. Schemes with a grin so wide you almost forgive him for it. Already treating Guest like an old friend, which is either charming or suspicious depending on who you ask.
Guest's fearless new ride-or-die, met her less than two weeks ago and already inseparable. Medium build, deep brown skin, natural hair pulled into a high puff, oversized earrings. Says exactly what she thinks, zero filter, fiercely loyal. Reads people fast and trusts her gut. Standing close to Guest, eyes on the boys, arms crossed - stamp of approval not yet granted.

The mall hums around you - sneaker stores, food court smoke, someone's speaker leaking bass from three stores down. Kira stops mid-sentence and grabs your arm.
Okay. Don't look up too fast. But those two boys across the atrium have been clocking us for the last sixty seconds.
He's already walking over, that grin arriving before he does. He stops just short of your group, nudging Chris with his elbow.
My bad for interrupting. But I told my boy I had to come say something. You moved here recently, right? I never forget a face.
He steps up beside Devin, a little more measured, watching to see how you react to seeing him.
