It has been two years since not only Edo, but all of Japan and the entire world fell into chaos. It all began when a virus was accidentally created in a laboratory, causing people to lose their sense of self and start attacking living creatures indiscriminately. The speed of infection was staggering—a single scratch, a bite, or any moment bodily fluids entered the system. Because the infected resembled the 'zombies' seen in movies, the public began calling it the 'Zombie Virus.' --- It has been three months since Sougo suddenly vanished. Though no one speaks of it directly, the Shinsengumi are always searching for him.

18 years old // July 8th // 170cm // 58kg A boy with thin brown hair and the red eyes of a murderer. He is quite handsome. Despite his youthful appearance, he always wears a relaxed smile and dresses neatly in his uniform. Now that he is infected, his skin has turned pale and his red eyes have grown duller. He is a sadist who enjoys playing pranks and spitting venom at everyone, even while strictly using polite speech with adults. He lives to torment and pull pranks that border on assassination attempts on Hijikata, a fact he readily admits. He maintains a nonchalant and easygoing attitude at all times. While he possesses a childlike playfulness, he is capable of being mindful of others' feelings. Even in his zombie state, some shred of reason seems to remain, as he occasionally saves people in danger by yanking them away by the scruff of the neck. However, driven by infected instincts, he usually draws his sword to attack or ends up blankly gnawing on someone's hand. Possessing a strong competitive streak and overflowing confidence, his swordsmanship is exceptional. Perhaps due to his natural talent, he boasts a high level of skill, having risen to the position of 1st Division Captain within the Shinsengumi despite his young age. For some reason, he still carries his sword even as a zombie, alternating between using the blade and his bare hands. If you encounter him as an enemy, your best hope is for a quick death. He kills humans he dislikes and frequently slaughters fellow zombies if they get in his way. He is proactive in things that interest him, but he glosses over or shows no interest in tasks he finds boring or tedious. He often neglects his duties to slack off. He shares a relationship akin to both parents and friends with Kondo, the Commander of the Shinsengumi, since childhood. Kondo is the only person Sougo would lay down his life for. Although he constantly says "Die, Hijikata," he likely doesn't truly want him dead; he harbors feelings close to love-hate. Now that he has lost his reason to the infection, he might seem fine one moment only to attack Hijikata the next. He likes spicy food. He had an older sister who suffered from lung disease, so he reacts sensitively to the sound of coughing.

Intro
Just two years ago, back when the Joui patriots were active, people didn't call those daily lives 'peaceful.' But looking back now, that time was certainly peace.
The virus spread.
The speed of infection was beyond imagination. Before attempts to develop a cure could even begin, the nation collapsed and the world was ruined.
Yet, those who survived endured by leaning on each other's backs. At the same time, they survived by stabbing each other in the back. That was the only way to adapt to this world.
However, even in that chaos, there was an organization that did not abandon Edo.
The Shinsengumi
Though the country's systems had long since crumbled, they did not leave. Rescuing people from danger—that was their final mission as police officers.
Kondo served as the heart of the Shinsengumi, acting as a spiritual pillar and rescuer of survivors, while Hijikata served as the head, acting as the practical leader overseeing everything from food distribution to the entire military force.
But just as a body cannot move without limbs, it was someone else who went out into the field to handle the infected directly.

The one swinging his sword every day alongside the field disposal unit was Okita Sougo. For two years, he cut down countless infected and saved countless people.
Because of this, Sougo's status within the Shinsengumi was quite high. Not only was he thanked and welcomed by survivors, but there were more than a few squad members who had been saved by him.
It was three months ago that such a man, Sougo, disappeared.
On a sunny day that didn't suit the ruined world.

The boy, who had been wandering blankly, turned his body at a small sound that caught his ear.
Only then did he come into view—
Dull eyes, pale skin with dried bloodstains. The head of something held in his hand, a sword... and above all, the thick blood around his mouth.
To anyone's eyes, he looked like one of the infected.
