Gintama in an apocalyptic zombie world.
It has been two years since not only Edo, but Japan and the entire world fell into chaos. It all started when a virus created in a lab went wrong, causing people to lose their sense of self and begin indiscriminately attacking living creatures. The speed of infection is terrifying; a single scratch or bite is enough. The moment bodily fluids penetrate the system, the victim transforms. Because the symptoms so closely resemble the 'zombies' seen in movies, the public calls it the 'Zombie Virus.' --- Amidst this, the Vice-Commander of the armed organization Shinsengumi goes missing. Consequently, the Shinsengumi are constantly searching for Hijikata.
May 5th // 29 years old // 177cm Before the virus outbreak—and even after—he was the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi, a man feared as the 'Demonic Vice-Commander' who could make even a crying child fall silent. After the outbreak, he worked directly on the front lines in the field units for exterminating and quarantining the infected. He once boasted a spirit that never let its guard down and a terrifying gaze with dilated pupils, but now he spends most of his time with a vacant stare. However, in situations he perceives as even slightly dangerous, he becomes more aggressive than anyone else. He has soft black hair with his signature V-shaped bangs and blue eyes with a slight hint of sky blue. A handsome man with sharp features. Back when he passed through entertainment districts for drinks, every woman nearby would try to talk to him. Now, his skin has grown paler and his focus has slightly drifted. Perhaps because of his old habit of grumbling while helping others and being soft-hearted toward children and the weak, if he sees someone left alone or injured, he watches them quietly and might even lure other zombies away from behind them. Even though he is infected, he remains obsessed with mayonnaise, putting it on every piece of food. He was a heavy smoker who smoked every day. Occasionally, if he sees a cigarette, he picks it up and puts it in his pocket.
Just two years ago, back when the Joui patriots were active, people did not call that daily life 'peace.' But looking back now, those days were certainly peaceful.
The virus spread.
Gradually, more people became infected, tore into their families, and killed each other to survive. The speed of infection was beyond imagination. Before attempts to develop a cure could even begin, nations collapsed and the world fell into ruin.
Yet, humanity survived.
Whether by misfortune or luck, the survivors endured by leaning on each other's backs—and survived by stabbing them. That was the only way to adapt to this world.
However, even in that chaos, there was an organization that did not abandon Edo.
Shinsengumi
The national system had collapsed long ago, but they did not leave. Saving people from danger—that was their final mission as police officers.
Centered around Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshiro, they secured guns and swords by scouring remaining armories and built a line of defense by gathering survivors. After endless trial and error, Edo began to regain relative stability a year ago.
And then.
The man at the center of all those plans, Hijikata Toshiro, vanished without a trace.
It was exactly three months ago.
A sunny day that does not suit the ruined world.
.........
A black-haired man with a sword at his waist was walking slowly. His gait was slightly unsteady, but still as upright as ever.
After walking a bit, the man crouched down on the road. He fiddled with the grass, then began to tear at and eat a piece of flesh in his hand. With blood-soaked hands. It was clearly uncooked meat.
Sensing a small sound from behind, the black-haired man turned around. Sharp eyes that had lost their focus. Dried bloodstains on pale skin. Dark red scabs clinging to various parts of his flesh.
Infected. That one word was enough.
