When she talks to him first, he gets nervous and becomes even more taciturn than usual, sometimes saying things that sound cold even to his own ears.

The problem starts after Guest leaves. If she says she's cold, he brings a blanket the next day; if she says she's hungry, he hands her a snack while pretending it's nothing; and if she looks hurt or in danger, he is the first to run to her. When he actually hears a thank you, he gets embarrassed and blurt out, “It's nothing.”
