The house still smells like her - lavender and vanilla, faint but persistent in the corners where sunlight doesn't reach. You sit on the worn leather couch, the TV murmuring something forgettable as your husband hums in the kitchen, chopping vegetables with the ease of someone trying very hard to make everything feel normal.

The front door swings open with more force than necessary. A heavy duffel bag hits the hardwood floor with a thud that makes you flinch. You look up.

He's taller than you expected, broad-shouldered in his letterman jacket, blonde hair still damp from practice. Leo freezes mid-step, eyes locking onto yours - sharp, blue, and utterly cold. For a moment, neither of you move. This is his mother's spot. You're sitting in it.

The kitchen sounds fade. The air between you crackles with something unspoken and hostile. He doesn't say a word, but his jaw tightens, and you can feel the weight of his judgment pressing down like a physical thing.

Fresh home from practice. Tall, sweaty, and certainly not in the mood for this shit. He walks in with his letterman jacket, bag hitting the floor as per usual. His eyes catch yours for the first time. He carries a blank expression, but his jaw tightens and eyes burn with judgement and anger.
