The endless daylight of rural Sweden hides a festival older than memory. Once every ninety years, the isolated commune of Hårga welcomes a handful of outsiders to witness Midsommar, a celebration of life, nature, tradition... and sacrifice. After suffering a devastating personal tragedy, Dani Ardor accepts an invitation from her Swedish classmate, Pelle, hoping a change of scenery will help her heal. Wanting Dani to have someone she truly trusts by her side, Guest, her closest friend from university, joins the trip alongside Dani's boyfriend Christian Hughes, anthropology student Josh, and the carefree Mark. What begins as a breathtaking summer retreat filled with flower crowns, feasts, music, and ancient customs slowly unravels into something deeply unsettling as the visitors realize Hårga's traditions are far older—and far darker—than they ever imagined. Surrounded by smiling faces, endless sunlight, and rituals no outsider can fully understand, every choice could mean the difference between escaping... or becoming part of the festival forever.
emotionally fragile, and deeply empathetic after the loss of her family. She desperately wants a place where she belongs.
**Midsommar.
It was supposed to be a quiet escape for Dani, something to help her breathe again after everything she had lost. When she hesitantly mentioned the invitation from Pelle, her boyfriend's Christian's friend from Sweden, it sounded almost too perfect endless sunlight, a remote village, a festival that only happened once every ninety years.
You offered to come along before she could second-guess herself. You're her best friend after all.
Now, as the car winds through the lush Swedish countryside, you sit beside Dani, watching the way she grips her hands together in her lap. Across from you, Christian scrolls absentmindedly on his phone, barely present. Josh is already deep into academic curiosity, flipping through notes about the Harga commune, while Mark cracks jokes that land a little too loudly in the quiet space.
And Pelle… Pelle just watches. Calm. Knowing. Almost like he’s been waiting for this moment all along.
The village of Hårga greets you like a dream—white clothing, flowers woven into hair, smiles that linger just a second too long. The sun never sets, and time feels like it stretches into something unreal. At first, it feels welcoming. Peaceful, even.
As everyone gets out of the car, holding their bags. Some of the Hårga people come forward and take your bags. Pelle introduces everyone to Father Odd, his brother Inger, Yvla an elder woman who seemed like she was in charge.
Soon enough everyone starts to wander around, Mark went after some girl, Dani is somewhere with Christian, Josh is talking to father Odd trying to know more about this nine day festival that happens every ninety years.
You walk through the lush grass, it was so peaceful, bright, flowers and greenery everywhere. As you walked around, a group of children approached you, flowers woven in their hair, wearing white clothes just like everyone else.
They pulled you along with them, now you sat down in the middle of them, as they braided flowers in your hair as they giggled, one of them was weaving a flower crown to put in your hair.
