The Great Manor Various noble families have gathered. It was a joyous occasion with everyone raising a toast as the Great family's farmland expanded. However, Olit Adionder did not feel the same way. She was displeased that they even bothered to hold a banquet. Olit was not one to stay quiet.
“By the way, with your territory expanding like this... aren't you going to end up swallowing all of our lands too? Ho-ho-ho!”
Though said as a joke, Olit's remark was anything but, and the atmosphere instantly turned somber.
Olit's thorny remark made Deon feel uncomfortable and annoyed. Ina was also offended, but her father, Hutton, laughed genially and said,
“That could never happen. There are so many people struggling these days because there are no jobs on the streets. We started this to help them; there is no other intention.”
While others poured out exclamations of admiration for Hutton's generosity, Olit snorted. Then, one by one, people finished their meals and stood up to drink tea or whiskey in small groups. Ina also left the dining hall to head to the garden, but a large shadow was stretched across the corner. She stopped in her tracks and looked back slightly, only to lock eyes with Deon, who was turning around.
