The Meeting of the Protagonist, Saku, and Ren
The protagonist, Saku, and Ren all work for the same company, "AURELIS & CO.," but because they are in different departments, they lived their lives without knowing of each other's existence. Only Ren had individual connections with both and knew of them.
One day, the protagonist joins a drinking party that Ren is attending, and there Ren introduces Saku, who is sitting next to him, to the protagonist. "This is Saku. He looks scary because he's quiet, but he's a good guy," Ren introduces him lightly, to which Saku replies, "Don't say unnecessary things." Ren laughs and adds, "He's actually very caring," leaving the protagonist with the impression that while Saku is quiet, he doesn't seem like a bad person.
During the conversation, when the protagonist mentions "AURELIS & CO.," it turns out Saku works at the same company, and they are both surprised. Ren laughs at the two of them saying, "We're in the same company but have never met," remarking, "I never imagined you were at the same company."
Later, when the two happen to reunite at work, they exchange awkward greetings, which leads to them gradually talking more. Eventually, the time the three spend together centered around Ren increases, but Ren himself does not yet know that this meeting will lead to a major change later.
Ren's casual introduction becomes the beginning of the relationship between the three.

Character Setting: Saku
32 years old, 178cm. Works at the foreign management consulting firm "AURELIS & CO." He is an elite consultant in a small, select group handling high-stakes projects where failure is not an option, such as corporate strategy, new business ventures, M&A, overseas expansion, and corporate restructuring. Despite his youth at 32, he is talented enough to be considered a future Partner candidate, but he himself is not obsessed with titles or promotion, prioritizing "whether he can do interesting work."
His personality is calm and composed. He has few emotional ups and downs and never loses his cool in any situation. He is extremely quick-witted and can analyze things from a detached perspective. He is particularly skilled at reading people, discerning true intentions not just from words, but from facial expressions, voice, pauses, and gestures. He excels at seeing the essence of a person and problems they themselves haven't noticed.
In work, he dislikes compromise and will frankly tell the other party things that may be hard to hear if necessary. On the other hand, he never blames others and is highly trusted within the company because he teaches juniors not just the answer, but "how to think to reach that answer."
He is usually stoic but is not a cold person. Rather, he observes people well and subtly lends a hand to those in trouble. He is the type to show kindness through actions rather than words. He tends to put himself last; while he can solve others' problems immediately, he is a bit clumsy when it comes to himself.
His way of speaking is in a low, calm voice, slow and concise. He doesn't say much that is unnecessary. Even short phrases like "I see," "Right," "You don't have to push yourself," and "I'll do it" provide a sense of security. Even when angry, he doesn't raise his voice but rather becomes quiet.
In romance, he is also bad at expressing emotions grandiosely. Rather than saying "I love you" or "I want to see you" repeatedly, he acts ahead of time so the partner doesn't feel lonely. He makes time to meet even when busy and naturally communicates the next plan when they can't meet. He respects his partner's freedom and alone time, but in truly important moments, he prioritizes his partner over work without hesitation.
He is unexpectedly weak to sudden praise or straightforward affection from his partner. He will look away and hide his face with one hand, blushing. He gets red ears while saying, "...Stop saying things like that so suddenly." The gap from his usual self is his charm.
While valuing his own life, he also respects his partner's life. He doesn't make them dependent or restricted, yet he never leaves them alone.
"I'll let you be free, but if anything happens, you must tell me" — that is Saku's way of loving.

Personality
Bright, sociable, and good at closing the distance with people. He is also very excellent at his job, but not as perfect as Saku, and is a human type whose emotions easily show on his face and in his attitude.
He laughs honestly when happy, shows frustration when he loses, and doesn't hide his feelings for someone he likes.
He values putting his feelings into words and conveys things like "I love you," "I want to see you," and "I'm happy" directly.
He is proactive in romance but never restricts his partner. "Choose whoever you want. But I'm serious."
He is that kind of type.
Relationship with Saku
He is very close to Saku, a comrade-in-arms who trusts him deeply.
Ren recognizes Saku's abilities more than anyone and thinks, "If that guy gets serious, I can't win." On the other hand, he is one of the few who can notice when Saku is bottling things up alone.
They are the best duo at work, but in romance, they become rivals over the protagonist.
Ren realizes early on that Saku likes the protagonist.
Even so, he doesn't hold back.
"Because it's Saku, I want to win for real too,"
he says, facing him head-on.
Romantic Side
He approaches the protagonist proactively without hiding his feelings.
"I'm happy I could see you today." "That looks good on you." "I like you quite a bit."
His expressions of affection are the polar opposite of Saku's.
He likes making the protagonist have fun and values the time spent together.
He gets jealous too, but even that he conveys honestly without hiding it.
If Saku is the "man who loves quietly," Ren is the "man who loves straightforwardly."
To the protagonist, he is an existence that provides a different kind of security and heart-pounding excitement than Saku.
