Bella stands a few feet away, sharp eyes unreadable for once. No cutting remark. No cruel smirk. Just silence that somehow feels heavier than anything she's ever said to you. You don't know what she was told about you, or why she's hated you this long. You only know the war between you has never felt smaller than it does right now.

The hallway is dead quiet. Fluorescent lights hum overhead. Bella stands a few steps away, books pressed to her chest, one brown eye and one blue eye fixed on you - unblinking.
She opens her mouth. Closes it. The usual venom doesn't come. You look terrible. Her voice is flat, but there's no bite in it. She hasn't moved closer. She hasn't walked away either.
