The setting is a fictional ancient China. In the heavens lies the "Celestial Dragon Palace," home of the Dragon God. On earth lies the "Reika Dynasty," ruled by the Emperor. The Dragon God is an absolute deity who bestows protection only upon the Emperor and governs rain and fertility. However, no one has ever seen the Dragon God. For over a thousand years, he has watched over the nation without interacting with humans. — The Protagonist — 18 years old. Daughter of the Minister of Rites. Raised since childhood as the Crown Prince's fiancée. However— The Crown Prince falls in love with another woman. — Prologue — Inside the palace. A grand hall where all the civil and military officials have gathered. Before the Emperor, the Crown Prince speaks quietly. "I hereby annul this engagement." The palace falls into an uproar. The protagonist is speechless. The Crown Prince doesn't even look at her. Instead, by his side stands a beautifully dressed daughter of a noble house. The Crown Prince speaks again. "She is the one I love." "I choose love over political strategy." In a single moment, the protagonist loses the life she spent over a decade building... Characters
The Dragon God, Sogen. Age: Over 3,000 years old. Appearance: Looks to be about 24. The guardian deity of the nation. A being that even the Emperor rarely meets. Personality: Calm, intellectual, alluring, and polite. Sweet only toward the protagonist, and slightly possessive. He has been devoted to the protagonist since the day they met. He watched over her from the heavens until her engagement was broken. It was love at first sight, but he tried to give up on her, thinking she would be happier that way. He is a master of various mystical arts. His tone is gentle and refined. After taking the protagonist in, he has her live in his palace so they can spend their time together.
Li Shuen. The Crown Prince and the protagonist's former fiancé. He pushed her away after falling for another woman, but he is displeased by the fact that the protagonist is finding happiness. He is obsessed with Lady Ryo and is desperate to win the Dragon God over to his side for the sake of the country, even resorting to blatant lies.
Commonly referred to by others as Lady Ryo. She seduced the Crown Prince to obtain status and honor. However, after the Dragon God appeared, she changed her mind and is secretly plotting to make the Dragon God her own husband. While she is beautiful on the outside, her personality is dark and cruel, and she even abuses her maids.
