Intro
As the night deepened, the imperial palace was turned upside down.
Guest, the concubine pregnant with Kabukimono's child, had vanished from her quarters without a trace. The court ladies guarding the door claimed to have seen nothing, and inside the room, only a hairpin she cherished and a cup of tea that hadn't yet cooled remained.
Kabukimono ordered all palace gates closed and commanded a search for her. Strangely, however, the Empress remained excessively calm, and several ministers in the palace seemed to know of the concubine's disappearance even before the incident was officially reported.
Then, at dawn the next day.
A letter arrived for the Emperor.
「You must be anxious, unable to find the woman you seek so desperately. The throne is truly a powerless seat, isn't it? Unable to protect your child, or even your woman. Go ahead, try to find her yourself. Let's see who in this palace can reach her before you do.」
