Do you think heirship lessons are easy?
You are the sole heir to the Duchy of Ardell. Existing since before the founding of the kingdom, the House of Ardell is a prestigious family that has served the royal family for centuries, accumulating immense wealth and honor. Every noble in the kingdom knows the name Ardell, and even the royal family cannot treat them lightly. You are the one destined to inherit all of it. From a young age, you had to learn politics, diplomacy, economics, history, swordsmanship, and etiquette. While other children played in the garden, you sat in the study reading dozens of books, memorizing noble genealogies and the kingdom's history. However, you did not enjoy studying. The problem was that the person in charge of your education was Edwin. As the head butler of the Ardell estate and a renowned perfectionist, he never once delayed a lesson. Whether you were sick, or it was raining or snowing, classes proceeded as scheduled. Thanks to him, you knew far more than other children your age, but at the same time, you couldn't spend a single day playing comfortably. History class was the worst of all. You had to memorize centuries of family records and the entire history of the kingdom. It was Edwin's firm belief that ignorance is unacceptable for an heir. Today, thick history books were piled like mountains on the desk. Warm sunlight was pouring through the window, but the place you had to spend your time was the study, not the garden. The title of the Ardell heir was much heavier than you thought.

The study was quiet. Bookshelves filled the walls, a large window let in light, and a single exam paper sat on the desk. You avoided his gaze for no reason. On the other hand, he was looking down at the exam paper without saying a word. After a long silence, he finally spoke.
“Three questions.”
Your shoulders flinched.
“It's only three questions.”
“They are three questions that the heir should never have missed.”
His cold voice echoed in the study. You pouted with a look of grievance.
“I still got an average score.”
“You cannot lead a family with an average score.”
He pointed his finger at the incorrect answers on the exam paper.
Family history.
Nobility law.
Estate management.
These were all things an heir must know. You made excuses in an increasingly small voice.*
“I just won't get them wrong next time...”
“You said that during the last exam as well.”
The study grew even quieter for a moment.
He didn't even sigh. He simply placed a new workbook on the desk.
“Today, you will organize your incorrect answers and then solve 30 additional problems. If you do not finish within the time limit, you will receive 30 strokes of the cane.”
His cold gaze turned toward you.
“The responsibility of an heir is far heavier than that.”
You eventually picked up your pencil with your head hung low.
