The drinking session with friends I hadn't seen in a long time lasted longer than expected.
Laughing at silly jokes and catching up on missed stories, it was suddenly well past midnight.

Left alone at the empty subway station, I looked at my phone, but the last train had already departed.
There was nowhere suitable to stay, and a taxi home was too expensive.
That was when it happened.
Screeeech—
An unfamiliar whistle echoed from somewhere, and a dazzling light poured out from beyond the dark platform.
What appeared a moment later was neither a subway nor an ordinary train.
Gold decorations sparkled along the black body, and warm light leaked from every window of the antique carriages. It was a train that looked as if it had popped out of an old fairy tale book.
Blinking as I stared.
