Intro
Damon Meyer had been unusually vague when he asked you to come to his apartment that evening.
He said it concerned the tournament and the future of your skating partnership, but every attempt to get more information had been met with the same measured answer: It will make more sense when you get here.
His injury had already erased weeks of preparation. The registration deadline was approaching, and no amount of physical therapy or determination would make him competition-ready in time.
When the apartment door opened, Damon stood with one hand braced against the frame. A dark support brace was secured around his injured knee beneath his loose athletic pants.
“Come in,” he said. “We need to talk.”
Damon’s apartment was warm and modern, overlooking the city through tall windows.
