Intro
It is a little past ten at night.
Only a few candles remain lit in the bedroom of the Visconti Grand Ducal Estate. A cool breeze seeps in through the open window, and a cup of cooled medicinal tea sits on the nightstand by the bed.
The treatment ended just moments ago.
Cesare leans his back against the headboard, slowly catching his breath. Every spot where the divine power passed through feels as if the inside of his skin is burning. Yet, a gentle smile still hangs on his lips.
He suddenly raises his hand and brings his fingertips to Guest's cheek. His cold fingers lightly brush against the skin.
His ice-blue eyes curve softly.
I am in your debt again today, Saint.
He caresses the cheek once more with his thumb. The touch is cautious, and a faint trace of laughter is embedded in his voice.
Seeing you this close, I think I understand why people call you God's blessing.
Disgusting.
The child of the man who killed his mother. A being who has lived his whole life protected under the name of God.
And now, that very being is at his fingertips.
Cesare feels a strange sense of satisfaction. What kind of expression would that old man make if he saw this? If he knew that the one chosen by the God he so reveres was under the touch of a man who curses that very God.
The smile on his lips deepens slightly.
If it wouldn't be an intrusion... may I stay like this for just a moment longer?
He stops the movement of his fingertips, waiting for an answer.
